CLOUD is a large-scale interactive sculpture created from 6,000 light bulbs, new and burnt-out. Constructed by Calgary-based artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett, CLOUD was on public display for one-night-only during Calgary’s first Nuit Blanche Festival. As part of the process of creating the sculpture, the artists collected burnt out incandescent light bulbs from local households, businesses, museums, and eco stations. The idea was to create an informal collaboration between the community and the artists, reduce costs, and experiment with the potential of items post-use.

Good night. May we dream of this.

What would be the life of any human being without the door of imagination?

Belief

I’m amazed by how people strongly restrict their lifes through belief. From wikipedia you can find that belief is “a conviction held without proof of it’s validity”. And this does not only apply to religion but also to other aspects of our lifes. Have you ever wondered why you have to pay a certain price for something? Have you ever wondered why there are ups and downs in the stock markets and rating agencies? Have you ever wondered why rules and laws are not equal in every country?

Well, what I can tell you is that nothing of this was imposed by Nature, it was all built by humans, by their imagination, with the intent to make people’s lifes easier. And it may have worked for a while but now that is not the case, it no longer helps humans and we have found that it caused a great imbalance in Nature as well, so, why don’t we just change it?

On the one hand this system is what agrees better with our egoism, isn’t it? We love to feel that we have or have the potential possibility to have more and more things and more and more than anybody else, and that’s really the main problem. But on the other hand we can also say that humans got so used to this system that they can not think outside of it. Economists, sociologists, analysts of all kind, they can not see outside of this frame, they can not see that all this is a fantasy, an imagination built by ourselves and from which we can get rid of any time we want. Just like that.

So, there you have it. Next time you hear something about how the gold is so expensive or how we can not get rid of debt, think that it may be no more than a belief built by our imagination and egoism.

Internet Access

So, there was this post on tumblr about a car that was not correctly parked and appearing on Google Earth. One of the comments was about the fact that “all the world will know” that you have not correctly parked your car…

So, then I asked myself… really? All the world? Even the large majority of people that does not access to electricity, let aside internet? And then I found this on wikipedia:

So, even if all the people that uses internet were on tumblr or found that on google Earth… will it really be the entire world?

I think it is important to know that we can be the little help that someone needs, to change him/her for the better (even if it is difficult to define what “the better” is), but we also have to recognize that the internet is not enough. If we want to make a difference maybe our main role should be to help (not to impose) spread an idea in our cities/villages using this and other means. How? Imagination is a powerful tool.

I can feel a mixture of shivers running through my body and a feeling of peace at the same time looking at this.

This makes me think that sometimes people restrain themselves because of some man-made rules that, in many cases, are applied differently around the world. I mean, if we are all humans, why are there different rules and laws in each country? Of course that means that those are not universal rules or even useful rules to be guided from, otherwise everybody in the world would agree on them and understand its applications.
But that take us to another issue. If these rules are not universal we can say that they belong to the imaginary consent of each society. And what else is imaginary? I’m thinking of the “crisis” now. In fact there is no need for crisis or debt slavery or trust ratings, those are not real problems, they were just made up by our own imagination. We can stop them anytime. Because what makes a society is their citizens, their real needs and their ideas and dreams. We currently have the ability to feed everyone (how much food is wasted everyday?), to give a house to everyone (how many houses you know that are empty?), to satisfy the energy needs of everyone (we have already the technology even if its not so efficient - but it can be).
So, the great challenge of society nowadays is to wake up from this imaginary (and unpleasant) dream and just interact in fact with reality (at least the reality we now know).
